Carrying out work aimed at reducing the level of electricity losses is one of the priority areas of activity for Kubanenergo.
According to results for 2011 electricity losses in its transmission along the Company’s networks were reduced by 75.774 million kilowatt hours, including a reduction in technical losses of 27.508 million kilowatt hours and nontechnical losses of 48.226 million kilowatt hours.
The reduction in nontechnical losses of electricity was due to a programme of works being completed to modernise electricity metering and completion of tasks from contracts for electricity distribution services.
Completing the Programme for long term development of electricity metering systems. Over 2011 more than 64 300 electricity metering devices were installed or replaced, which made it possible to increase the calculated volume of electricity transmission services provided on average by 0.07%. The result of this work was a reduction in the accounting year of 8.486 million kilowatt hours in electricity losses by reducing systematic instrumental faults of the obsolete stock of metering devices.
Replacing 0.4 kilovolt branch lines to buildings. During the accounting year 7 400 000 0.4 kilovolt branch lines to buildings done with ordinary wire were replaced with self supporting isolated wire. In addition metering devices were removed from the facades of building, which will make it possible to exclude the possibility of unmetered electricity consumption and unauthorised access to metered circuits and external influences on the proper working of meters. As a result of completing technical work the calculated (from meter readings) volume of electricity transmission services (net generation) increased in comparison with the previous year by 0.01%, and reduction in losses totalled 0.354 million kilowatt hours.
Engineering inspection of electricity metering systems. During 2011 technical (instrumental) inspections were carried out on 438 795 electricity metering systems. As a result faults were discovered and corrected which made it possible to reduce losses caused by unauthorised increases in faulty working in the measuring systems by 13 million kilowatt hours (0.08% of the volume of services supplied) worth 36 million rubles not including VAT, including 9 million kilowatt hours worth 20 million rubles included in the volume of services provided by providers of last resort.
Organising systems of technical record keeping for Kubanenergo main substations. To organise work on more detailed analysis of the reasons for increased losses, their location and elimination work was carried out to fit auxiliary points of technical energy accounting. Thus, during 2011 more than 228 metering units were fitted, replaced or repaired.
Taking control readings from electricity meters. To determine the volume of electricity transmission services provided Kubanenergo staff make rounds of domestic consumers and take control readings from meters installed for corporate entities. In total within Kubanenergo’s zone of operations more than 1.132 million delivery points to domestic consumers and 86 800 delivery points for corporate entities (including in the network of neighbouring territorial network organisations). During 2011 Kubanenergo carried out work to take readings at the following frequencies: domestic consumers twice a year (more than 230 000 metering points a month); corporate entities — for metering devices fitted at Kubanenergo facilities four times a year (more than 427 metering points per month. More than 3.199 million inspections of the accuracy of readings and the veracity of information presented on meter readings were carried out.
