Within the territory of Krasnodar Region and the Republic of Adigeya natural and technical occurrences are possible as a consequence of which emergencies could arise, such as:
- geological processes taking place once every 25–30 years whose affected area could include electricity facilities of Sochi, Labinsk,
Yugo-Zapadnie and Adigeiskie electricity grids (2100 members of staff); - hydrologic events and processes taking place once every 4–5 years, whose affected area could include electricity facilities of Armavir, Slavyansk, Labinsk, Krasnodar, Sochi and Adigeiskie electricity grids (759 members of staff);
- meteorological atmospheric events (wind, flooding, ice) happening annual, the most vulnerable electricity networks being Sochi,
Yugo-Zapadnie, Slavyansk, Adigeiskie, Armavir and Labinsk; - radiation hazard — in the event of an emergency at Rostov Atomic Power Station (Volgodonsk) the area of radiation contamination could include Leningradskie and Tikhoretskie electricity networks with up to 1020 members of staff;
- chemical hazard — in the event of emergencies at chemically hazardous facilities in Krasnodar region and the Republic of Adigeya, as a result of which 12 Company facilities and 1120 members of staff could be affected by aggressive chemically hazardous substances;
- at Kubanenergo substations transformer oil is used in large quantities and is capable of causing environmental pollution, fires and explosions.
In 2011 the Companies electricity facilities and employees were not exposed to the effects of technogenic emergencies, however there were three hazardous natural events which led to power outages.
According to forecasts by the Krasnodar Regional Centre for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring emergencies are likely to occur at the Company’s electricity facilities in 2012 because of the following reasons:
- strong winds, rain storms and ice — in the areas of Slavyanskie, Sochinskie and
Yugo-Zapadnie energy networks (total of 1808 employees); - landslides (mudslides) in the areas of Adigeiskie, Armavirskie, Labinskie, Slavyanskie, Sochinskie and Timashevskie electricity networks (total of 370 employees);
- surge wave, whose area includes Slavyanskie and Timashevskie electricity networks (total of 178 employees).
In total around 3407 Company employees could fall within the areas of unfavourable and hazardous acts of nature. Material damages arising from emergencies in 2012 could total up to 300 million rubles.
The Company pays attention to questions of preparing and training personnel the actions to be taken in the event of an emergency. In the accounting year 88 drills and 55 site training events, to improve the skills of employees at emergency response and restoration divisions and management of the executive apparatus and electricity network branches.
To relieve the consequences of emergencies the Company has the appropriate reserves of material resources.
