Kubanenergo, providing consumers with the cleanest form of energy, electricity, has a not insignificant effect on the environment: air resources, bodies of water, the soil, forests and sub soils.
The Board of Directors of Kubanenergo (Protocol of 18 January 2008 . №49/2008, with amendments of 26 December 2008, Protocol №64/2008) approved the Environmental Policy of the Company and the programme to carry it out was declared a priority for the Company.
The aims and tasks of the Kubanenergo Environmental Policy include the following:
- observance of the requirements of existing environmental protection legislation;
- reducing the negative effects of production waste products;
- rational use of natural resources;
- developing and acquiring of permissions regulating the work of the Company in the field of environmental protection;
- technological refitting and gradual move away from use of outdated equipment and its replacement with environmentally superior equipment;
- improving environmental management systems.
In the accounting year the following actions mentioned in the Programme for Carrying Out the Environmental Policy were successfully completed:
- timely receipt (extension) of permissions for emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere and waste disposal limits;
- environmental monitoring was carried out on observance of the standards of allowable emissions into the atmosphere at emission points, quality control of storm runoff flowing into the landscape;
- timely calculation and payment for negative effects on the environment;
- research into the state of atmospheric air on the borders of buffer zones and residential buildings for Company facilities with the aim of reducing their quantities;
- KRUN 6-10 kilovolt cells with oil circuit breakers were replaced with cells with vacuum circuit breakers;
- SN type accumulators were replaced with imported more environmentally friendly ones ;
- 8.94 tons of spent KS1 and KS2 type condensers — an extremely hazardous type of emission containing trichlorodiphenyl — were scrapped;
- 56 transport and specialised vehicles that had reached the end of their working life were replaced with new vehicles that meet Euro 3 standards;
- internal environmental audits were carried out in all branches and the executive apparatus of the Company, as a result of which actions were developed to improve the environmental management system and prevent negative environmental consequences.
The Company pays great attention to training and ongoing training of staff in the field of environmental protection. In the accounting year managers and specialists at Kubanenergo were trained in the following programmes:
- Ongoing Training for Managers and Specialists in Environmental Protection — 25 people;
- Occuupational Training of Persons Permitted to Work with Hazardous Waste — 45 people;
- Internal Integrated Management System Auditor in the field of Environmental Management Systems — 9 people.
Timely setting of standards and execution of laboratory investigations, as well as observance of the requirements of environmental protection legislation made it possible to reduce payments for negatives effects on the environment in 2011 in respect of several indicators.
In 2011 the regulating authorities did not impose any fines or sanctions on the Company for violation of environmental protection legislation.
